How to play
The game uses 51 cards from a standard deck. The queen of clubs is removed, leaving the queen of spades unmatched as the Old Maid. Pairs of equal rank are removed automatically. On each turn, draw one face-down card from the next active player.
Tips for winning
Watch whose hand shrinks slowly, but remember that card positions stay hidden. The system removes pairs immediately, so you only need to choose one face-down card.
The exact TableDuel Old Maid rules
Old Maid is played with several different decks and house rules. This page always describes the rules enforced by the online game.
Goal and deal
The game is played by 2–4 people. The queen of clubs is removed from a standard 52-card deck, leaving 51 cards. The queen of spades cannot form a pair and is the Old Maid. Every card is dealt; some players may receive one extra card.
Removing pairs
Two cards of the same rank form a pair regardless of suit. After the deal and every draw, the system automatically removes every new pair. Four cards of one rank are removed as two pairs. The queen of spades is special and cannot pair with another queen.
Taking a turn
The current player chooses one face-down card from the next participant in player order who still has cards. The selected card enters their hand, then any new pair is removed immediately. A player with no cards has safely finished and skips all later turns. Reaching the 60-second turn limit triggers a random draw.
End of the game
The game ends when only one player still has cards. That player holds the unmatched queen of spades and loses; every other participant wins. If an active player forfeits, that player loses and everyone else wins.
