Play Schnapsen online with Hungarian cards
Play Schnapsen with two, three or four players. In the two player version you can face a friend or the computer; invite friends to join the team variants.
How to play
Each player receives five cards. Card values are jack 2, queen 3, king 4, ten 10 and ace 11. Reach 66 points with tricks and marriages: king and queen score 20, or 40 in trump. After the stock runs out or is closed, you must follow suit, beat the lead if possible, or play trump.
Tips for winning
Watch the trump suit and track high cards already played. Close the stock only when your hand can realistically reach 66.
Schnapsen: playing on TableDuel
What is different about this version?
Two-player Schnapsen uses 20 cards and supports a friend or computer opponent. Three- and four-player games use 24 cards with invited players: one plays against two in the three-player version, while a called card determines partners in the four-player version. Card points differ from game points awarded for a deal. You must declare 66 using the interface.
A decision worth thinking through
Once tricks and valid marriages give you 66 points, use the declaration control; simply playing another card does not replace declaring 66. Declaring with only 65 points is a risk. Before closing the stock, also consider whether you can secure the missing points under the stricter rules that apply after closing.
Schnapsen rules and scoring
Rules of the two player, 20 card base game; differences for three and four players follow below.
The three- and four-player variants use 24 cards, including nines. With three players, each gets four cards, the first player chooses trumps, then each gets four more; the first plays alone against the other two. With four, each gets three cards, the leader calls a specific card, then each gets three more. Its holder becomes the partner and its suit is trump; the partner stays hidden until the card is played. Team tricks and valid 20/40 marriages count; 66 must be declared.
The goal
In two-player mode, each player receives five cards. Reach 66 points from tricks and valid marriages and declare 66 to win the hand; otherwise the last trick decides. Game points accumulate across hands: the match ends at 25 points against either a human or the computer. The entire match counts as one game in statistics, with the number of hands shown separately.
Cards and tricks
In each suit, ace is strongest, followed by ten, king, queen and jack. The face-up card determines trump. While the stock is open, any card may be played and the trick winner draws first. After the stock is exhausted, follow suit and beat the lead if possible; otherwise play trump if available.
Marriages and the stock
A player leading a trick may declare 20 with a king or queen if holding its pair, or 40 in trump. The declaration counts only after winning a trick. The trump jack may be exchanged for the face-up card while at least two face-down cards remain. Closing the stock stops drawing and immediately enforces following suit and beating.
Ending the game
Declaring 66 ends the hand. The winner receives 1 game point if the opponent scored at least 33 card points, 2 if fewer, or 3 if the opponent won no trick. Winning by the last trick with an open stock is worth 1 game point. A failed stock closure awards the opponent 2 or 3 game points. Play continues in the same match until the target is reached.
